As people depart MySpace daily for the infinitely better (in my humble opinion anyway) Facebook, MySpace has to continually invent new features and re-vamp its interface so there is a degree of parity between the sites.

It seems dear Rupert has gone a little crazy recently, and decided that we need yet another place to job search, and thus Sir Rupey has delivered us MySpace Jobs.

What I find most interesting is that I didn’t find out about this because Tom decided to post a comment on my profile, I saw an ad on Facebook. Well, not on Facebook itself, but in the insanely popular Scrabulous App.

Hats off to the Murdochs for this one. A very nice side step around rules and regs! That said, I still feel the relevance and usefulness of such a venture is passing, at best!!

Bets in the comments. I give it no more than 4 months!

gotta hand it to rupert to have guts of steel to advertise on a competitor’s site.
in other news, something like the jobs app. could drag (some) people onto the site. then they will fall in love with all things myspace…until they get bored and leave, i guess.

    i’d wager 3 months.

@kaz - I just love the lack of personal/work disconnect that something like the Jobs section adds to MySpace… and personally it seems a lot like a desperate move. MySpace still has it’s roots in Music, but playing with that formula (so far at least) hasn’t helped!

And its those roots in music that will ensure Myspace doesn’t completely implode, and will stay relevant long after its deserters have traded in their accounts for Facebook walls. No one touches them for band hopping and artist-fan interaction, and no one will.

(I challenge you to name one current indie band that doesn’t have a Myspace account!)
